Another Sunday and it is studio time

Here is the painting finished. When you lay the soft pastel over the underpainting it helps to create depth in the work. I like the way the river moves slowly back giving you more of a sense of place, it also creates the sense of what is further away from the viewer. I like the feeling the sky gives of tranquility and the reflection created in the river.

Today I am working on bringing a couple of oils and one pastel to completion. Often asked when a painting is done, I guess the best answer is when I sign the work. It is very seldom that I ever go back into a work after it is signed.

One of the pleasures I have is mentoring other artists and sharing my knowledge and thoughts with them. I love to watch how there are grows and improves. Here is one of the latest creations by a student that I mentor in watercolor. I have enjoyed how she is getting stronger at both design and color. I look for ways to push her buttons.
